The Promise and Peril of the Technological Society: Perspectives from Modern Jewish Thought
(Religion and Culture)

Rabbi Dr. Shai Held, Co-Founder, President, Dean, and Chair in Jewish Thought at Mechon Hadar, a center for higher Jewish learning in New York City, where he also directs the Center for Jewish Leadership and Ideas. Previously, Rabbi Held served for six years as Scholar-in-Residence at Kehilat Hadar in New York City, and taught both theology and Jewish Law at the Jewish Theological Seminary.

The Malcolm and Diane Rosenberg Program in Judaic Studies in the Dept. of Religion & Culture will be hosting a two-evening event focused on the question of the search for meaning in a technological age. Featuring pioneering scientist Dr. Peter Saulson and influential theologian Rabbi Dr. Shai Held, the symposium will examine what religious ideas still have to teach us about the goal and meaning of life in our scientific society.
