Flag-raising ceremony for National 4-H Week
(Special Event)
All members of the Virginia Tech community and 4-H alumni are invited to celebrate National 4-H Week in a special ceremony where Virginia Cooperative Extension leaders and others will raise the 4-H flag on the university flagpole. After the event, the 4-H flag will fly beneath the state flag for the remainder of the week.
National 4-H Week, Oct. 7-13, marks the 4-H program's 106th year of existence. This year's theme is "4-H SET: Science, Engineering, and Technology."
4-H originated from a need for basic agricultural education for youth, but today the program offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes science and technology, career and economic education, citizenship, communication and expressive arts, family sciences, and leadership. Last year, Virginia 4-H enrolled more than 160,000 youth in its wide variety of programs and activities, and more than 24,000 youth learned valuable life skills at 4-H camps throughout the commonwealth.
