Continuing education seminar on structural technology for interns and practicing architects

Mehdi Setareh, architecture professor in the School of Architecture + Design, invites intern and practicing architects to participate in the Structural Technology continuing education seminar at 1021 Prince Street in Alexandria, Va., on Oct. 26-28.
This course provides an overview of structural technology topics as related to the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) offered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Part One (General Structures) reviews the necessary knowledge on structural theory and behavior of different building components in steel, concrete, and wood. Part One is eligible for 18 AIA LU/HSW credits. Part Two (Lateral Forces) emphasizes the effects of lateral forces on building structures. Part Two is eligible for seven AIA LU/HSW credits.
Setareh is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia and Michigan and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, and the Architectural Engineering Institute. He received his doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1990 and has been at Virginia Tech since 1997.
