Sustainability Week: Blacksburg Watershed Open House
(Special Event)
We are incredibly lucky in Blacksburg to have abundant water. Water is one of the reasons why Town Founder William Black initially settled here. In 1797 Mr. Black petitioned the State to establish the Town of Blacksburg referring to it as "a piece of ground in a healthy climate, a fertile neighborhood with excellent springs thereon." Stroubles Creek powered mills in the early 1900s and provided drinking water for the Town and Virginia Tech up until the 1950s. Today Stroubles Creek does not meet State Water Quality Standards. Come celebrate Blacksburg Watershed Open House and learn what you can do, what a watershed is, about water quality, what impaired & TMDL mean, about water management and new approaches. There will be activities for all ages, kids games, hands-on water exhibits, maps, watershed walks, and how to improve your Blacksburg watershed! More information...
