The Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine Research Recognition Day features Excellence Professor Oliver Smithies of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, the 2007 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, awarded for his contributions to the development of principles for introducing specific gene modification in mice by the use of embryonic stem cells.
