Blacksburg Community Band Spring Concert
(Music/Theatre/Dance)
The Blacksburg Community Band, under the direction of Ed Schwartz, will be presenting its 21st Anniversary Spring concert. This concert will feature two movements of The Planets by Gustav Holst, Mars and Jupiter, American Overture for Band by Joseph Willcox Jenkins, and selections from the Broadway musical, The Pajama Game. The concert will also feature clarinet soloists Elizabeth Bowles and Mary Keffer performing Concert Piece No. 2 by Felix Mendelssohn, and Dixon Smiley performing Pegleg Pete by Luigi Zanninelli on the contrabass clarinet.
Steven Brown, the classical music host on WVTF's Afternoon Classics program, will conduct several works including two of his original compositions and the band will welcome Jay Durner to the podium to conduct several numbers including The Homefront: Musical Memories from WWII by James Christensen.
