Dying Green: A Film Screening and Panel Discussion about Green Burial
(Movie/Film)
Concerns about the negative environmental impacts of cremation and traditional burial practices have led many people to seek greener ways of laying the dead to rest. The "Green Burial" movement is catching on in the U.S., and green cemetery options are now available in Southwest Virginia. On March 20, 2014, Blacksburg's Lyric Theatre will host a film screening and panel discussion of the award-winning documentary, Dying Green (2011). Panel participants include Joshua Slocum (executive director of the national Funeral Consumers Alliance), Samuel Perry (a licensed mortician and Compliance and Education Specialist for the Green Burial Council), Dr. Billy Campbell (who operates the nation's first conservation burial ground in Westminster, South Carolina), and Isabel Berney (a representative of the Blacksburg-based Funeral Consumers Alliance of the Virginia Blue Ridge). Please join us for this fascinating and informative look at green burial. This event is free and open to the public. More information...
