  "Visualizing Emancipation and the Affordances of Digital Humanities"

Scott Nesbit, associate director of the Digital Scholarship Lab at the University of Richmond, will speak about his poineering digital humanities project, Visualizing Emancipation (http://dsl.richmond.edu/emancipation). He will also discuss more generally the ways current humanistic questions can motivate new forms of visualizations, and how the capabilities--or, the affordances--of those visualizations then inform humanities
scholarship. A Digital Discussions event, sponsored by the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies, the Center for Applied Technologis in the Humanities (http://wiz2.cath.vt.edu), and the History Department's Public History Program.
