Science and Technology Leadership Series: Dr. Geoffrey Ling

Dr. Geoffrey Ling, deputy director of the Defense Sciences Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), is the second speaker in the National Capital Region 2013-2014 Science and Technology Leadership Series.
Dr. Ling will present "Lessons from DARPA's Revolutionizing Prosthetics program and new investments under President Obama's BRAIN Initiative."
The presentation is from 4 to 6 p.m., with a reception immediately following.
Dr. Ling is an authority on traumatic brain injury, especially as it pertains to the military. Recently retired from the U.S. Army, COL (ret.) Ling was deployed to both Afghanistan (2003) and Iraq (2005) as a military intensive care physician. In addition, he went on all four Gray Team Missions to both Iraq and Afghanistan (2009-2012).
At DARPA, Dr. Ling has created a broad research portfolio that encompasses more the $400M in funding. His most prominent programs are the Revolutionizing Prosthesis (RP) and Preventing Violent Explosive Neuro Trauma (PREVENT). His work has been featured on "60 Minutes" and profiled in major news outlets including USA Today and the NY Post.
