Diggs Week Workshop - Expeditionary Learning: Theory and Application to Your Classroom (Parts 1 and 2)
(Seminar/Conference)
Presented by Alan Abrahams. Participants can attend both parts or one part of their choosing.
Part 1 (2:00pm-3:00pm): In the "expeditionary learning" approach, students collaboratively discover, catalog, and compare rapidly evolving "specimens" in their field of study (e.g., new products and services). During this hour long session, an overview of expeditionary learning will be provided, and an example case demonstrated. Participants will then work with the discussion leader to brainstorm and plan how to apply expeditionary learning in their own classroom.
Part 2 (3:00pm-4:00pm): Here participants will learn about the Pamplin Text Analytics Toolbox (PamTAT) - a suite of text analytics tools built in Microsoft Excel as an expeditionary learning project. Participants will learn some common text analytics functions and ideas for applying text analytics in both teaching and research.
