The Molecular Tool-kit of Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers
(VTC)

Erica Ollmann Saphire, PhD
Professor
Department of Immunology and Microbial Science
The Scripps Research Institute
La Jolla, California

A seminar in the Research Institute Seminar Series

Viruses must achieve a number of functions in their lifecycles, often using compact genomes. Dr. Ollmann Saphire's laboratory has discovered that Ebola virus extends the functional complexity of its seven-gene genome by rearranging at least one of its transcribed polypeptides into different structures, with each distinct protein structure conferring a separate and essential function in the virus lifecycle.
