Living Lab Lecture Series -- The Impacts of Changing Demographics on Transportation in Arlington and the Region
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)
Dennis Leach, director, Arlington Department of Transportation, will discuss how demographics and changing views toward transportation and its uses effect policy creation.
In the National Capital Region, policy is created by baby boomers who were raised in the era of cars on behalf of millennials, many of whom use cars as a last resort.
Leach, a 21-year resident of Arlington, has worked for the county since 2004. He currently overseas a broad range of programs and services including transportation planning, design, construction, and operations of Arlington's multimodal transportation facilities/services. This scope includes one of the nation's largest transportation demand management and commuter services organizations, a rapidly growing local transit program, and a program that focuses on infrastructure-related development review, permitting, and inspections.
