  Seminar -- The Rewards and Risks of Online, Social Experiments: Development, Issues and Current Status of the CLOSE Platform  
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)

Kiran Lakkaraju, senior technical staff member, Department of Cognitive Modeling, Sandia National Laboratories, will present "The Rewards and Risks of Online, Social Experiments: Development, Issues and Current Status of the Controlled, Large Online Social Experimentation (CLOSE) Platform."

Lakkaraju will discuss the promises and pitfalls of online social experimentation. He will describe the new CLOSE system platform used to conduct online, longitudinal, social experiments; the problems faced in developing the system; and the solutions used to address these issues.

Lakkaraju will also highlight some experiments currently in development for the platform and early results on testing the reliability of subjects obtained from Amazon Mechanical Turk.
