Scientific Reporting for Major News Organizations
(VTC)

Sick of lab work but love to read and write about science? Ever thought you might want to be a science reporter but not sure you have what it takes or whether it's the right career for you? This mini internship will put you in the shoes of a scientific reporter, leading you through exercises that will give you a true feel for the fast paced world of science journalism, and help you uncover tricks and tactics for communicating complex research to the general public.

Since joining National Public Radio in 2012, Dr. Michaeleen Doucleff has covered a range of topics, from dog psychology to beer biophysics to the Ebola epidemic. She was previously a scientific editor at the journal Cell.

Sponsored by Virginia Tech's BEST program, this workshop is intended for doctoral students and postdoctoral associates in the biomedical and health sciences.

Participants must preregister as space is limited.
