Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly
(Arts)
One of the best-loved Italian operas, Puccini's Madama Butterfly (1904) is set in early 20th century Nagasaki, Japan. Witness the passionate story of Japanese geisha girl Cio-Cio-San (Butterfly) and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Pinkerton, whom she loves, as the dramatic tale comes to life in this semi-staged concert performance with piano accompaniment. For more than 37 years, the Ash Lawn Opera (ALO) has produced opera and other musical performances in Charlottesville, Virginia. ALO also provides a wide range of educational programs for youth and adults, and provides professional training for emerging artists.
