Art Exhibit: Venkat Raman Singh Shyam Contemporary Pardhan Gond Tribal Artist
(Arts)
The Pardhan Gond were introduced to popular culture in Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book and described as "...the oldest race in India---the Aboriginal keepers of the land."
Shyam's beautifully crafted, brightly colored images find inspiration from the natural world. The Perspective Gallery exhibit includes Shyam's ink drawings as well as his acrylic and watercolor paintings, many of which have a storyline derived from Gond tribal mythology.
This solo exhibit of Shyam's work complements "Painted Songs & Stories: Contemporary Gond Art from India" at Radford University's Covington Center for the Arts that will run September 3 - October 25. Both Exhibits are curated by John H. Bowles.
Meet the artist who has traveled from Bhopal to attend this exhibit at a reception Friday August 28 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
