MI + SPIA Fall Speaker Series: Michelle Cullen - Cities on the Path to Smart
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)
Michelle Cullen, Global Community lead, IBM, will present "Cities on the Path to Smart."
Information and communication technologies are increasing being infused into city systems and services as part of a growing trend to make cities "smart." This enables large information technology (IT) providers to become involved in urban governance.
In her presentation, Cullen will discuss how, as this smart city market grows, IT providers clamor to spread their wares, leaving an indelible mark on a growing number of cities around the world.
Cullen's work at IBM focuses on innovation within emerging markets and public sector consulting. Before joining IBM, she spent a decade as an international development practitioner. During her more than six years at the World Bank, Cullen served as a post-conflict specialist providing performance measurement and social assessments for multi-million dollar projects in conflict-affected countries within Africa, Central America, and East and South Asia. She has also worked on projects for the U.S. Agency for International Development, the World Health Organization, and The Carter Center.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
Lecture begins at 6:30 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served.
The 2015 Fall Speaker Series is a joint effort of the Metropolitan Institute (MI) and the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA).
