DAC Seminar Series: Kristen Summers -- Watson After Jeopardy!
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)

Kristen Summers, senior managing consultant, IBM, will present "Watson after Jeopardy! Natural Language Processing for Question Answering and Knowledge Discovery" as part of the Discovery Analytics Center (DAC) Seminar Series.

In 2011, Watson consisted of a single question answering system adapted to play the Jeopardy! quiz show. Today, the Watson portfolio includes a wide array of cognitive solutions, software that is designed to enable natural human interactions and to learn from experience.

In her talk, Summers will provide a brief overview of the capabilities in that portfolio, with a deeper discussion of Watson Discovery Advisor (WDA). WDA both continues the open-domain question answering of the Jeopardy! Watson and expands it with capabilities that support human discovery of new and relevant knowledge within a line of inquiry.

Summers will describe the language processing pipelines that support these different modes of use and the continuing development and adaptation of the system for ever-expanding support to human research and problem solving.
