Guest Speaker: Dr. David Kingston on Drug Discovery from Nature
(Special Event)
The Hahn Horticulture Garden is honored to welcome Dr. David Kingston to our speaker's series. David has been working for most of his career searching for anti-cancer drugs found in plants and other natural products.
He was the first chemist in the U.S. to study the chemical qualities of paclitaxel, which is marketed as Taxol, and widely used to treat breast and ovarian cancer. He has received 14 patents including several for molecular modifications that improve the activity of Taxol. Among his many awards and accomplisments, David has had two trees named after him, Taxus kingstonii, also known as the Kingston yew, which grows in India, China, and Taiwan, and Cordia kingstoniana, a South American tree of the genus Cordia.
