Cookery, Cocktails, Chores, and Cures: Food History in Special Collections
(Special Event)

Have you heard of the History of Food and Drink Collection? Are you interested in cookbooks, culinary history, or historic recipes? Did you ever wonder why and how people learn about food history in America? Virginia Tech's University Libraries' Special Collections might just have some answers!

Archivist Kira Dietz will talk about the history and evolution of the History of Food and Drink Collection at Special Collections, which began as the Peacock-Harper Culinary Collection (still the core of the current collection), and continues to grow. She will share some American culinary history, classic and unique recipes, favorite items, and creative uses of collection materials by researchers and the department. This will be a chance to engage hands-on with items from the collection, including cookbooks, manuscript receipt books, cocktail ephemera, artifacts, and more!
