Trauma, Diaspora, and the Syrian Uprising in Arab Women's Writings by Dr. Hanadi al-Samman

Dr. al-Samman's lecture will be based on her book Anxiety of Erasure: Trauma, Authorship, and the Diaspora in Arab Women's Writings (Syracuse UP, 2015). She will highlight the ways in which Arab women writers participate in their homelands' intellectual lives, engaging with both the traumatic and the empowering aspects of diaspora. Particularly, she will focus on diaries of war and displacement by Syrian women who had to flee their homelands in search of safety.
