  Celebration of Mexican Independence Day
(Special Event)

Mexican Independence Day is September 16, contrary to the common belief and celebration of May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) in the United States. The Mexican Independence marks the beginning of freedom and the spread of independence movements in many Latin American countries. Mexico, Central America and parts of South America fought together to get their independence and later decided to become independent countries. Thus, Latin America shares not only traditions and language but also a history of colonial times and a search for freedom.
