Donning of the Kente
(Special Event)
The Black Organizations Council would like to extend an invitation to all Fall 2007 Graduates to participate in the Donning of the Kente Ceremony: A Celebration of Achievement. The Donning of the Kente Ceremony is a rite-of-passage for undergraduate, graduate and PhD candidates. The Black Organizations Council utilizes the celebration as a way to provide students with a positive and memorable experience to reward graduates and students for their hard work and dedication. In the Donning of the Kente, family and friends have an active role in the graduation ceremony in that they are given a chance to publicly and formally acknowledge your achievements and congratulate you for receiving your degree.
The events of the Donning of the Kente Ceremony include a formal address by a well-noted speaker, your chosen speaker to acknowledge your achievements and a dinner reception following the closing remarks.
All interested graduates should register for this event at this link (https://survey.vt.edu/survey/entry.jsp?id=1194306733508) by November 26th, 2007 and turn in a payment of $30.00 to the Black Organizations Council Office, located in 306 Squires. If you are unable to turn in your money to the office, please contact Belleine Najacque (najacqub@vt.edu) or Lauren Davis (lldavis@vt.edu) to make further arrangements. The $30.00 payment is required to purchase the Kente Cloth you will proudly receive at the Donning of the Kente and will wear during the University Commencement. There are Greek stoles available as well. Invitations will be sent to the address of your choice identified in the survey link.
