New Metropolis Lecture Series
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)
Zachary M. Schrag, assistant professor of history at George Mason University and author of The Great Society Subway: A History of the Washington Metro will draw from his book to argue that Metro is best understood as the concrete manifestation of liberal ideals of the 1960s and 1970s which, while out of fashion, can be helpful in planning for new metropolitan development.
Schrag's book, in dissertation form, was awarded the John Reps Prize in planning history. Schrag has published articles, essays, and reviews in numerous scholarly and popular periodicals including AHA Perspectives, H-Net, the Journal of American History, Journal of Economic History, Journal of Planning History, Journal of Urban History, Technology and Culture, TR News, Washington History, and The Washington Post.
This lecture will be made available on podcast following the event.
