One night only at Blacksburg's historic Lyric Theater. Opera Roanoke, under the direction of maestro Steven White, presents Gustav Mahler's masterpiece, "Das Lied von der Erde" (Songs of the Earth) performed in Arnold Schoenberg's ingenious transcription for chamber orchestra. The program will feature mezzo-soprano Nancy Maultsby and tenor Donald George in this expansive song-symphony that explores life, death and renewal in the context of nature. Also featured, the gilded splendor of George Frederick Handel's vocal music, with soprano Elizabeth Futra, singing a collection of some of the great master's most beautiful and exciting opera arias.
