Unveiling of Virginia Tech/VIPER race car
(Special Event)
VIPER (Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research) and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research will feature a retired No. 43 Nextel Cup race car donated by Petty Enterprises on the Drillfield before Thursday night's game, to be televised on ESPN.
Now bearing the colors of Virginia Tech, the car has a new look from what Petty racing fans are used to. Richard Petty and son Kyle in Mach donated the car to the foundation for use by mechanical engineering graduate students pursuing degrees at VIPER. The VIPER facility is located at Virginia International Raceway in Halifax County.
On hand will be VIPER Director Steve Southward and facilities manager Bryan Pittman, and John Kennedy, the senior director of research at IALR.
The event is free. For more information on the donation by the Petty's click here. More information...
