Scholar: Survey and Assessment (Which Tools do I Use?)
(Academic)

Welcome to Scholar, a robust learning and collaboration system which offers tools for teaching and learning, research, collaboration, and assessment/accreditation projects. Scholar Course sites are designed to facilitate collaboration, communication, and can also provide assessment. Users can effectively discuss ideas, exchange and share files, and present web content within Scholar, but as a course tool, online tests, quizzes, or surveys can be used as a powerful tool in teaching and learning. Scholar sites contain methods for surveying and assessing student knowledge. This workshop is focused on the instructor wishing to setup new tests or quizzes to provide students with self-assessments or to test their content knowledge. This workshop is designed to provide hands-on development of at least one assessment template and a test, quiz, or survey based on that template. This session will answer the following questions and more: Why would you use online tests or quizzes in a face-to-face class? How do I create a template? How do I create a survey? How do I build a self-assessment for my students? How do I adjust the settings for different types of tests or quizzes (e.g., timed, multiple attempts, etc.)

Note: Bring your test questions with you! If you have test or quiz material already in Blackboard, you can request that it be copied to your new course by visiting the Transition Information page at http://learn.vt.edu/transition/ and filling out a request to have them moved for you by submitting online at http://4help.vt.edu/
Blackboard to Scholar participants are highly encouraged to plan to attend most or part of this special two-day offering. For the best experience and to gather the full knowledge and benefit presented, please consider attending these 1.5 hour workshops in the following order: (1) Scholar Overview (any), (2) Scholar: Unpacking After the Move from Blackboard, (3) Scholar: Creating Your Course and Content, (4) Scholar: Collaboration and Communication, and (5) Scholar: Survey and Assessment.
