The Big Event in Charlotte
(Special Event)
The Big Event at Virginia Tech has grown to be the second largest service event of its kind in the country! Over the past 10 years, Virginia Tech students, faculty and staff have completed thousands of projects across the New River Valley. On March 31, 2012, nearly 7,000 people on campus will complete over 1,000 service projects. This year, we, the Charlotte Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, are partnering with this amazing project and will be doing service projects across Charlotte. Our numbers in Charlotte will be added to those in Blacksburg as Virginia Tech strives to make this the largest event of its kind! This is a great way for you and your family and friends to come together in the spirit of Ut Prosim!
Register to serve at one of the following volunteer opportunities:
Alexander Youth Network: Provide support and counseling for children that have severe behavioral and emotional problems. We will be doing a clean sweep of their Charlotte campus. Please bring work gloves!
Charlotte Family Housing: Provides housing for homeless families across Charlotte. We will be helping complete a variety of tasks at their two local shelters (ex. cleaning rooms, general maintenance, activities with kids).
Friendship Trays: Bring food and full meals to people across Charlotte. We will be helping at one of their local Friendship gardens where they grow some of the food that they use in their meals.
Loaves and Fishes Foodbank: Serves the Charlotte area by providing groceries and various food to the hungry. We will be sorting food at their warehouse.
