Faculty Inquiry Group - Designing Learning Environments - Part 3
(Academic)
Environments and their design communicate possibilities. What messages do our university's learning environment send? How can we create together a campus-wide ecosystem of learning spaces, one that stimulates and supports the very best of what our faculty and students are capable of? Brian Matthews, Associate University Librarian for Learning and Outreach, and Gardner Campbell, Director of Professional Development and Innovative Initiatives in the Division of Learning Technologies, will facilitate this inquiry into how we might redesign and weave together "classrooms, libraries, labs, informal spaces, and virtual/mobile spaces to form a coordinated, institutional learning web that offers students and faculty new opportunities before, during, and after class" ("Opening Up Learning," EDUCAUSE Review, May/June 2009, 63). We'll tour campus learning spaces, look at examples of academic commons at other institutions, discuss possibilities for "incubator classrooms," and both read and contribute to the growing international discussion of best practices in learning environment design. This is the third session of a four part series. Be sure to register for all four sessions. This course is open to all faculty, staff and graduate students. More information...
