Leaders in Science and Technology Seminar Series: Lt. Gen (Ret) Robert Elder

Lt. General (Ret) Robert Elder, research professor, School of Engineering, George Mason University, will present "Approaches to Leverage Cyberspace for National Security." His lecture will focus on alternative approaches to protecting cyberspace that require involvement of actors outside the network ops community and on the expanding role of cyberspace as it shifts from a key enabler to a critical element of U.S. national and and economic security.
General Elder served as the first commander of Air Force Network Operations and led the development of the cyberspace mission for the Air Force. His experience includes senior leadership positions with the Joint Staff, Air Staff, Air Combat Command, and NATO. He has commanded at all levels, led unit deployments to Southwest Asia, Europe, and the Pacific, and held senior command positions in operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. He has also served as program manager for the F-155 Avionics Integration Support Facility and was commandant of the Air War College and vice commander of Air University.
