Capital Science 2012 Conference
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)
The Washington Academy of Sciences' Capital Science (CapSci) 2012 Conference, March 31-April 1, is co-hosted by three universities in Arlington, Virginia -- Virginia Tech, George Washington University, and Marymount University. CapSci 2012 will serve as an umbrella for scientific presentations, seminars, tutorials, and talks, and underline the fact that the Washington, D.C. area is not only the political capital of the country but, in many respects, the nation's intellectual capital as well.
Conference registration will be available at the Virginia Tech Research Center -- Arlington on Saturday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Sunday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration for faculty, staff, and students of the three host universities is free; however, there is a separate cost for meals. Plenary sessions will also be held at Virginia Tech. Other sessions will take place next door at George Washington University and at Marymount University, just across Fairfax Drive.
On Saturday, March 31, at 9:30 a.m., Justin Morgan, research associate, Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), will present "Driver Opinions of Simulator-based Commercial Vehicle Training," which he authored with VTTI colleagues Myra Blanco and Richard Hanowski. Morgan will discuss how simulator-based training provides an opportunity to train drivers in a potentially lower cost and and safer environment than traditional, behind-the-wheel, methods of training.
