Embedding Reflective Practice in Student Learning (Pedagogy in Practice Seminar Series)

In late spring 2012, the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) published a new issue of Pedagogy in Practice, a publication that shares stories of Virginia Tech faculty who are engaging in holistic and transformative educational experiences through the creation of effectual pedagogy. The CIDER Pedagogy in Practice Seminar Series is being offered to enable participants to learn more about the practices shared in the publication. This seminar will extend the discussion of the pedagogy shared in the article entitled "Embedding Reflective Practice in Student Learning."
Asking students to reflect about what they are doing, and why, is a helpful tool in understanding what they know and can do in our classrooms. Reflection done across multiple modalities is particularly illustrative of students' critical thinking and their learning. There are several pedagogical approaches that elicit wonderful results, in both large and small class settings, and this session will explore a number of those strategies.
