Community Voices - "Of Photographs, Limestone, and Place: Learning and Teaching a New American Citizenship"
(Seminar/Conference)
Community Voices will present Dr. Tal Stanley, author, historian, and community activist who will speak on a new citizenship of place that is defined in its creativity, its willingness to share risks, in its effort to listen deeply, and in its commitment to honesty in the face of the most significant and difficult questions of our time and place. Stanley, a professor at Emory & Henry College, is a tenth-generation Southwest Virginian who grew up in Dublin, in Pulaski County.
Stanley will speak on how the places of Southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia are central to the American story; and, how in the hard, daily work of citizenship in those places, we are learning and teaching a new citizenship that has the potential to reshape our public life.
