Chemical Probing Interactions of the Urokinase Receptor
(VTC)
Samy Meroueh, PhD
Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Indiana University School of Medicine
Indianapolis, Indiana
A research seminar in the Research Institute Seminar Program
Protein-protein interactions of the urokinase receptor,
also known as uPAR, have been implicated in tumor
invasion and metastasis. Dr. Meroueh's laboratory employs
a structure-based computational approach to identify
small molecules that bind uPAR and modulate its protein
interactions. This is followed by design, synthesis, and
biochemical and cellular characterization of derivatives
culminating in phosphoglycerate kinase and efficacy
studies in a breast-to-lung metastasis orthotopic model.
