Johan Galtung, founder of the academic discipline of Peace Studies, kicks off Cultivating Peace: A Symposium for Violence Prevention. Galtung's career in the study of structural violence, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding spans over six decades. He has served at numerous universities and has mediated in about 50 conflicts between states and nations.
