Improving Cancer Therapy: By Targeting Metastasis, Chemoresistance, and Cachexia
(VTC)
Swarnali Acharyya, PhD
Research Associate
Department of Cancer Biology and Genetics
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
New York, New York
Metastasis is an ominous feature of cancer that involves dissemination of cancer cells from a primary site of origin to outgrowth at a distant organ. The major impediment to cure metastatic cancer is the emergence of resistance to the majority of standard of care therapies. This talk will focus on dissecting systemic mediators of both chemoresistance and metastasis that can be potentially targeted to improve therapeutic outcome. Dr. Acharyya will delineate her plans to integrate signals and inputs from metastatic cells that affect distant microenvironments such as lung and muscle to improve cancer therapy.
