Costume Design and Theatrical Renderings: Highlights of the 1962-2010 Powell-Parker Collection
(Academic)
The collection documents a moment in history of costume design spanning early career work at regional theatres and later work such as that for the Beijing Opera. Watercolor renderings of costume designs from a variety of plays produced from 1962-2010 including designer notes, playbills, photographs, correspondence with directors, etc. - all evidence of the work of design - are available for display. The broad nature of the collection may be of interest to the history of design, women in theatre, women working in the arts, and the semiotic relationship of text and image in the design process.
