2016 Diggs Roundtable
(Academic)
The 2016 Diggs Roundtable reception will take place on Monday, October 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the University Club.
Each year the Diggs Teaching Scholars Association presents its Roundtable where this year's Diggs award winners present their innovative projects that won recognition within the broader university community. Following the presentations, discussion will be open to explore the projects more deeply and how they may apply to other classroom and educational environments. Discussion of these projects will also serve as a springboard to broader discussions of the teaching mission at Virginia Tech and how to foster innovative teaching methods. At this year's Diggs Roundtable, we will hear about three innovative pedagogical approaches to launch our conversation:
- Jean Lacoste, Senior Instructor for Accounting and Information Systems in the Pamplin College of Business, will present on "Using multi-modal pedagogies to support individualized, student-centered learning."
- Zhange (Nicole) Ni, Assistant Professor of Religion and Culture, will present on "The arts and sciences of monster-making."
- Akshay Sharma, Adjunct Associate Professor of Industrial Design and Autodesk Design Education strategist, will present on "Design thinking for social impact."
We welcome all university members -- faculty, staff, administration and graduate students -- who are interested in the teaching mission at Virginia Tech generally, and innovative practices in particular, to join us at the Diggs Roundtable on October 24. Conversations at this event are lively and thoughtful, bringing together passionate educators from around campus in the spirit of exchanging ideas across a broad range of disciplines.
