School of Performing Arts Director Finalists Presentation - Michael Rothkopf

The School of Performing Arts presents Michael Rothkopf, the first of three finalists for the position of Director of the School of Performing Arts.
Rothkopf is a composer of over 50 works of chamber, electronic, orchestral and vocal music. His compositions have been noted for their "remarkable sensuousness" and their evocative ability to create a "sense of time and occasion." He has focused on creating interactive music involving digital technology and artificial intelligence as part of the compositional design. Currently Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), Rothkopf teaches composition, music technology and graduate courses, and has served in several administrative roles at UNCSA, including as Chair of Faculty Council (Senate), Interim Dean of Music, and Assistant Dean of Music and Graduate Programs. He is a founding member of the senior editorial board for JOLT (Journal for Online Learning and Teaching and a founding member of the MERLOT Music Editorial Board (Multimedia Educational Resources for Online Teaching).
Rothkopf received his masters and doctor of music degrees from Columbia University.
