From Pedestal to Protest: Cultural Politics and the Confederate
(Seminar/Conference)

Extolled, celebrated, criticized, vandalized and shrouded from view, Confederate monuments have been at the center of historical and current debates about memory and commemoration, historical obfuscations and marginalizations, and social and racial justice concerns. Join Professor Evie Terrono of Randolph-Macon College to explore the ideological framework that generated and sustained Confederate memorializations from the late nineteenth into the mid-twentieth century and deliberate on what is gained and what is lost in current conflicts on the fate of the monuments.
