VE Day Transcribe-A-Thon: The American Soldier Project
(Special Event)

Join us in celebrating VE Day with a Transcribe-a-Thon focused on uncensored, handwritten reflections of military service from WWII soldiers. "The American Soldier" project is a collaboration between multiple units at Virginia Tech (the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; University Libraries; and Center for Human-Computer Interaction) as well as the National Archives and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The event will be based in the Digital Humanities space, Athenaeum (Newman 124). Anyone wishing to transcribe these documents may do so via our dedicated Zooniverse site [https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/tkotwim/the-american-soldier]. We will live stream portions of our VE Day Transcribe-a-Thon, including: introductory remarks about the content from project lead and VT History faculty member Ed Gitre; dramatic readings of soldier responses by VT Theater students; and performances of musical selections from the WWII era.
