Seminar: Deciphering the molecular mechanisms of skeletal muscle plasticity
(Seminar/Conference)
Exercise and physical activity have always been known to improve physical performance and health and prevent disease.
Dr. Zhen Yan and his team employ molecular genetics and imaging technologies in a variety of animal models to elucidate the underlying molecular and signaling mechanisms of exercise-induced adaptation with a focus on the remodeling of mitochondrial reticulum in skeletal muscle. Recently, his team has worked on the role and regulation of AMPK-Ulk1 axis in exercise-induced mitophagy.
Dr. Yan is professor of cardiovascular medicine and director of the Center for Skeletal Muscle Research at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
