Texting with God: Writing and Erasing, Feminism and Misogyny
(Academic)
Jen Taylor Friedman is known for pushing the boundaries of tradition within Judaism. As a scribe, historically restricted to men in Judaism, she is the first known woman to complete a copy of a Torash scroll. She also is the creator of the Barbie Tefillin Project, where she dresses Barbie dolls in traditional male religious garb, questioning not only the limits of gender roles in Judaism, but also what a Jewish person looks like. Please join us for an evening lecture with Jen as she explores the intersections of Judaism and feminism, drawing on her unique experiences.
