Intercultural Communication and Its Impact on Academic and Professional Success
(Academic)

Is culture shock fact or fiction? Dr. Chris Merkelbach, Executive Director of the Language Center and Director of the Center for Intercultural Competence at the Technical University in Darmstadt, Germany, will discuss intercultural competence as a basic skill for study, life, and work and its importance in today's global society. He will describe practical strategies for successfully adapting to a learning or work environment in another culture. Many of his examples will focus on the culture of Germany, where he grew up and currently works, as well as Chinese culture, based on his more than 20 years as a German professor in China and Taiwan. All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend.
