Costume Design: From Page to Stage
(Academic)
This exhibit will show the steps a Costume Designer takes from reading the script till the actual costumes are on the stage. These steps start with analyzing the characters; researching the period; putting the ideas in your head down on paper, or preliminary sketches; final renderings; shopping, building, pulling from stock, fittings; technical rehearsals; and finally opening. We will track these stages using some costumes from the Theatre department's production of "The Importance of Being Earnest" that was presented in the Fife Theatre at the Moss, and designed by Laura Vitale (a first year graduate student at the time).
