Music for the Heart and Soul
(Music/Theatre/Dance)
Musica Viva is excited to present this program, which showcases works of the great composers from the "Romantic" period: Dvorak, Schubert, and Brahms. The first half includes shorter works that were actually composed for home concerts by music lovers. Both, the Dvorak Bagatelles, and the Schubert string trio D 581, are much more demanding technically than the composers planned. Both are becoming more popular as the audience is more familiar with them.
The second half has one major work, the famous piano quintet by Brahms, which was originally composed for a string quintet, then revised for a piano duo, and finally written for piano and strings. One of the "Work Horses" of the chamber music literature. All three are gems, that show why these composers are so popular.
The Avanti Ensemble (David Ehrlich, Benjamin Wyatt and Teresa Ehrlich) is joined by Wanchi Huang and Victoria Chiang, viola.
