Hulya Dogan: Transnational Identities: Homeland making of Ahiska Turks in Turkey
(Academic)
The link between homeland and identity has been controversial. Considering that Ahiska Turks have been displaced multiple times and do not have a nation state, it is even more complicated to come to a conclusion about the link between homeland and identity. In analyzing the narratives of homeland among Ahiska Turkish immigrants, Dr. Dogan observes the deeply territorializing concepts of identity among Ahiska Turks living in Turkey as a community that has been displaced and uprooted multiple times for many decades.
The Center for Humanities at Virginia Tech presents a broad range of expert engagement with topics focusing on the human condition broadly conceived, from history to societal issues to performance to literature to the intersection of humanities and technology, all in an effort to promote engagement with topics that enlighten and broaden understanding of the human experience, identity, and humanistic concerns about the world.
Please join us as we hold a series of talks where Virginia Tech faculty in the humanities might discuss the broad significance of their research in ways that connect to people from the community. There will be a brief question and answer following the talk. More information...
