Webinar: Community Solidarity and the History of Emotions in the Age of Covid-19
(Academic)

This webinar features a panel discussion with Anja Laukoetter, historian of society, culture, science, and knowledge and senior research at the Center for the History of Emotions at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development; and James Hawdon, Interim Chair of the Department of Sociology and Director of the Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention at Virginia Tech. Laukoetter will provide a historical perspective on the concern for the "healthy self" in times of Covid-19; Hawdon's talk will investigate if the limits on face-to-face interaction during the current pandemic have affected community solidarity. This is the second in a six-part webinar series titled "COVID-19 in Transatlantic Perspective: U.S. and Germany." The series is co-sponsored by the Campus Weeks initiative of the Federal Republic of Germany; and the Center for German Studies, the Department of German, and the European Studies Program at the University of Virginia. It is organized in collaboration with the German Program at Virginia Tech.
