Panel Discussion: "The Social Fabric in the U.S. and Germany: Race, Class, and Health"
(Academic)

This is the third event in the inaugural speaker series organized by the Collaboratory for German Studies in Virginia (CGSV); the series, "The New Normal: The U.S. and Germany Now," explores how life in the U.S. and Germany and the relationship between the two countries have changed due to recent social and political developments. Guest presenters Marta Neuff, Chair of the Polish Social Council, Berlin, and Cameron Coates, Black Lives Matter, Fredericksburg, will discuss the state of race, class, and health/healthcare in Germany and the U.S. How has the social fabric changed in recent years and especially during 2020, the year of COVID? How did the pandemic lay bare the class, race, and healthcare issues in both the U.S. and Germany? A Q&A session follows. The moderator is Marcel Rotter, Associate Professor of German, University of Mary Washington. The CGSV is a partnership among the German programs of the University of Mary Washington, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, and William & Mary.
