Dr. Beverley Park Rilett, Literature Program in the English Deparment's Visiting Speaker
(Special Event)
Dr. Beverley Park Rilett will present "George Eliot's Middlemarch at 150: Digital Research Opportunities." She will discuss the three related websites she created--the George Eliot Archive, the George Eliot Review Online, and George Eliot Scholars--and will demonstrate how these sites facilitate new research into Eliot's Middlemarch 150 years after its publication. Her talk will emphasize the importance of public humanities, open access, and the democratization of research that computers make possible and provide insights into how literary scholars can build digital archives of their own.
Dr. Rilett is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Special Collections an Archives at Auburn University. She is a specialist in digital humanities and English literature, with a focus on nineteenth-century British women writers.
